NACTE - Minimum Entry Requirements for Admission 2016/2017


Applicants, who aspire to be admitted into health training institutions registered by the Council (government and non-government OR recognized by Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elders and Children ) for academic year 2016/2017, should meet the following minimum entry requirements:

PRE-SERVICE ENTRY QUALIFICATION 

1. Basic Technician Certificate Level 
  •  Community Health
Holders of Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) with four (4) passes including Biology;

2. Technician certificate level

  • Nursing, Clinical medicine, Environmental health and Pharmaceutical Sciences 
Holders of Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) with four (4) passes in non-religious subjects including ‘D’ passes in Physics/Engineering Sciences, Chemistry and Biology;
  • Health Records and Information Technology
Holders of Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) with passes in Mathematics, English, Chemistry and Biology; 
  • Medical Laboratory Sciences
Holders of Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) with passes in Chemistry, Biology, Physics, English and Mathematics;

3. Ordinary Diploma level
  • Nursing, Clinical medicine, Clinical Dentistry, Environmental Health Sciences, Dental Laboratory Technology and
4. Pharmaceutical Sciences, Physiotherapy  

Holders of Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) with four (4) passes in non-religious subjects including ‘C’ pass in Chemistry and Biology; and ‘D’ pass in Physics/Engineering Sciences 

5. Optometry
 
Holders of Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) with ‘C’ pass in Physics/Engineering Sciences and Biology; and ‘D’ passes in Chemistry and Mathematics; 

6. Health Records and Information Technology  

Holders of Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) with ‘C’ pass in Chemistry and Biology; and ‘D’ pass in English and Mathematics;  

7. Medical Laboratory Sciences

Holders of Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) with ‘C’ pass in Chemistry and Biology, and ‘D’ passes in Physics, English and Mathematics  
Note: For Government institutions, applicants are required to have completed O’ Level between 2011 and 2015 (inclusively).

IN-SERVICE ENTRY QUALIFICATION

1. Basic Technician Certificate in Community Health
  • An applicant who has received informal training in Community Health Workers (CHWs), Para Social work (PSW) and
Medical Attendant (MAs) recognized programs; and practiced in the respective area AND Holder of Certificate of Secondary Education Examination OR Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination. Admission of such applicants into the programme will follow guidelines and procedures for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) prescribed by NACTE.
Necessary Attachments:
  • Birth Certificate 
  • Letter from Village Executive Officer (VEO) 
  • Certificate for CHWs, PSWs or MAs training (if attended)
2. Ordinary Diploma  Nursing
  • Holder of Certificate NTA level 5 in related field with ‘D’  pass  in  Biology, Chemistry or Physics (CSEE) for the graduates starting from 2010; OR
  • Graduates before NTAs system should have certificate in Nursing and Midwifery/Public Health Nurse B and at least D
Pass in any of science subject; AND  Work experience of two (2) years and above,

Necessary Attachments:
  • Register and License to practice by TNMC
  • Technician Certificate and Transcript in the related field  Letter of permission from employer. 
3. Environmental Health Sciences
  • Holders of Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE); AND
  • Holder of Certificate in Environmental Health Sciences and Transcript from Health Training Institution recognized by the Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elders  and Children; AND  
  • Work experience of two (2) years and above,  
Necessary Attachments:
  •  Technician Certificate and Transcript 
  •  Letter of permission from employer. 
  •  License to practice
4. Medical Laboratory Sciences
  • Holder of Certificate NTA level 5 in Medical Laboratory Sciences with ‘D’ pass in Biology (CSEE); OR
  • Holder of Certificate in Medical Laboratory Sciences awarded before 2012 with ‘D’ in Biology and Chemistry; AND 
  • Work experience of two (2) years and above,
Necessary Attachments:
  • Technician Certificate and Transcript in the related field  Letter of permission from employer. 
  • License to practice
5. Clinical Medicine
  •  Holders of Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) with four (4) passes including “D” pass in Physics, Chemistry and Biology; AND
  •  Holder of Certificate NTA level 5 in Clinical Medicine; AND
  •  Work experience of two (2) years and above
Necessary Attachments:
  • Technician Certificate and Transcript in the related field  
  • Letter of permission from employer
  • License to practice
6. Advanced diploma (Clinical Medicine – AMO, Clinical Dentistry - ADO and Vector Control).
  •  Holders of Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE); AND
  •  Ordinary Diploma Certificate and Transcript in the related field awarded by Health Training Institution recognized by the Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elders  and Children; AND
  •  Work experience of two (2) years and above,
Necessary Attachments:
  • Ordinary Diploma Certificate and Transcript 
  • Letter of permission from employer. 
  • License to practice
Applicants with foreign certificates 

Applicants with foreign certificates of secondary education will be required to submit their certificates to National Examination Council of Tanzania (NECTA) for equivalence. To download equivalence form visit NECTA Website (http://www.necta.go.tz/).

Applicants with Technician Certificates and Diplomas should submit their certificate to the National Council for Technical Education (NACTE) for equivalence. To download equivalence form or apply through the Award Evaluation System visit NACTE website (www.nacte.go.tz). 
Application Fee and Mode of Payment

Applicants will be required to pay a Non-refundable application fee of Tshs.30,000/- payable through M-Pesa.

All applicants will be required to pay Non- refundable application fee of Tshs 30,000 through M-Pesa before lodging an application.
