The Examiners’ Report on the Performance of Candidates in Chemistry subject in the Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) 2013 was prepared in order to provide feedback to students, teachers, parents, policy makers and the public in general on the performance of candidates in a respective subject.

This report on CSEE 2013 Chemistry paper 1 is based on the analysis of candidates’ performance on the stated examination.  The examination assessed candidates’ competences in accordance with 2007 Certificate of Secondary Education chemistry syllabus and the 2008 CSEE format.

A total of 144,651 candidates sat for this paper, out of these, 72,552 (50.19%)  candidates passed the examination and 72,099 candidates (49.81%) failed. The statistics are in contrast to 2012 CSEE performance, where by a total of 170,959 candidates sat for CSEE chemistry paper, and out of these, 75,441 candidates
(44.1%) passed and 84,293 (55.9%) failed. Therefore, the performance in 2013 has increased by 6.09 % compared to that of 2012.
